The purpose of all the programs at the Albuquerque Rescue Mission is to permanently end homelessness in the lives of the men, women and children who come into the Mission each day. Whether it is an open door to the life of a homeless person through one of our ministries of compassion such as food, clothing or shelter leading to life solutions or through the more comprehensive help offered through the New Life Program.the desired outcome is the same...lives transformed through the power of God's love.

Women's Programs: Answering the Call

The word "survival" goes beyond metaphor when you talk with homeless
women. Some suffer from dependence on drugs and/or alcohol, others
come to us physically or sexually abused, some have been incarcerated
and found they have no place to go afterwards.

Women live a precarious life on the streets, they cannot meet their basic
survival needs- they do not know where their next meal is coming from,
they do not have safe shelter or private space to address personal hygiene
needs. Many face the loss of children and family. All are vulnerable to the
ever-present threat of assault, rape and murder.

The growing numbers of homeless women on the streets of Albuquerque
cries out for attention. It is estimated that over 5000 women are homeless
here in one year. The Albuquerque Rescue Mission is working diligently to
provide more services to these women and we are only able to do this
through the guidance of our Lord and Saviour and support from our donors.

We would like to show you how the Mission stretches out a supporting
hand of help and hope to these women in crisis so that they can exit the streets
and enter a new life; a life transformed.

Emergency Shelter and Compassion Ministries

The Mission holds fast to the belief that in order to effectively reach into the heart and mind of a struggling person we must begin by meeting their most basic physical needs. ARM is visited by people everyday who have pressing serious needs. Some have no shelter and have been sleeping outside in the alleys and in deserted buildings, or have been without food for a number of days. Some are running from abusive spouses or have been cast away by their families as hopeless. Whatever the circumstance all are in need of shelter, food, clothing, referral and a message of hope. The Emergency Shelter and Compassion Ministries are designed as a first step to an open door of restoration at the Mission. Emergency Winter Shelter

In 2004, beds for women were added to the Emergency Overnight Shelter program.
The shelter is open from November to March, providing basic overnight shelter for
up to fifty women.

Women's Center of Hope

While living in this facility up to ten women will be enrolled in a life restoration program designed to be completed in about 12 months. At the completion of the program, the goal is that the women will find employment, move to permanent housing, and lead productive lives. This life changing program is intended to address the spiritual, educational, emotional, and physical needs of the participant.

The Women’s Center of Hope includes a Learning Center that will be utilized by the women in addressing these areas of study. A chaplain will oversee the progress of each of the women while serving as case manager, counselor, and advocate. The program also aims to add strict discipline, accountability, and structure to the lives of the women, some attributes of life that may be new to some of the program participants.

New Life Program for Men

The New Life Program for Men is a holistic 12-18 month program designed to help men who want to end the cycle of homelessness in their lives. The program addresses all areas in a man's life such as educational, vocational, physical addictions, spiritual needs and barriers to residency and long term employment.

All applicants complete a screening interview as well as a period of assessment to determine their probability of success in a residential program and in order to begin the process of building a personalized program of study and issues resolution for their tenure in the New Life Program

Men's and Women's Dayrooms

The Men's and Women's Dayrooms at the Mission are designed as one of the initial portals into the restorative process in the life of a homeless individual. The dayrooms serve as a safe place where men and women can come and talk to the staff at the Mission about issues in their lives and receive Biblical guidance and where possible referral to other avenues of help. The Mission often holds dayroom classes which address a wide variety of subjects and concerns that the homeless often struggle with. Alongside the Bible studies and personal encouragement the Dayrooms serve as a place of rest and reflection where decisions to begin the path of restoration can be made.
