Actions Speak Louder Than Words
Volunteers Making a Difference - November 2008

Norma’s greatest gift to give

Norma came to the Mission before Christmas one year to wrap gifts for the children. She was here with her family, but circumstances in her life made her unique. Norma says, “ I was homeless at the time and anxiety and depression ruled my life. I was not addicted to drugs or alcohol. I chose to stay on the streets. I learned how to survive but was always afraid.” Norma’s daughter encouraged her to come to the Women’s Day Room at the Mission and seek help. Finally, Norma sat down with Marie Robinson-Marmash, Women’s Day Room Supervisor. It was the beginning of a relationship in which Marie and the Albuquerque Rescue Mission would be instrumental in her recovery, building a new life for her in Christ, and continuing to be a large part of her life through her volunteering.

Marie says, “Norma is my rock. Her dependable, gracious ways with the women helps me tremendously.” We see the effect of the work she does through the prayers and understanding that she gives freely to the women in the Day Room. Norma believes the homeless and hurting women need to see new hope for their life through example. “ I feel that if I can show others that the abiding love of Jesus Christ IS the light at the end of the tunnel for them, then this is the greatest gift I can give back.” Give back you do, Norma, filled to the top, tamped down and brimming over, and the Albuquerque Rescue Mission thanks you for this.

"Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."

3 John 1:8
