I saw a homeless man on the side of the street with a sign asking for help, what do I do? So many times our hearts are broken for people we see each day in our city. Whether they be on the side of the road with a sign or sitting in an alley just trying to stay warm and dry, there is something inside of us that reacts to the apparent suffering. The staff at the Mission has been helping people with serious problems for decades and we have the right types of services and programs which can help them get back on their feet. Sadly, whenever you give money to a man standing on the side of the road you are only feeding an addiction or enabling the behavior which caused the man to be in such need. Even sadder are the few men that take advantage of the caring and compassionate people of Albuquerque by parading as a homeless person in need of help as a simple way to take money from unsuspecting, tenderhearted people. We strongly recommend that you do not take any homeless or apparently homeless person to your home for any reason. We do recommend that you tell them to get to the Mission for food and help. How much does it cost to stay at the mission? ¿Cuánto cuesta para permanecer en la misión? There is no charge for the services provided by the Mission. We serve hundreds of thousands of meals as well as provided thousands of articles of clothing and nights of shelter. The Mission receives no Federal, State, City or United Way funding for any of our year round programs. We are supported by hundreds of caring and compassionate people who are concerned about the quality of life in our city for everyone who would call Albuquerque home. The Mission offers it's help to anyone regardless of race, creed or color. I really need help, who do I call? ¿Necesito realmente ayuda, que llamo? The Albuquerque Rescue Mission helps homeless men, women and women with children with food and clothing while providing emergency shelter for men. | ||||||||||||
